This Just In: Poop is Funny!
As much as this blog devotes to the differences in comedy from different cultures I think we can all agree is that bodily functions, specifically poop, is funny. Recently I discovered through the great blog of Spoon and Tamago (among others) that poop can not only be funny but can also be used to educate! A new series of books to help children study kanji (Chinese characters adopted and used in Japanese) has been produced with every drill using examples that have to do with poop! Six "Unko Kanji Drill" books are available (one for each grade in elementary school). After reading about this hilarious series online I had to go see for myself. I picked up one at the bookstore today (the book for sixth graders) and it is just as creative and funny as you could imagine (for some reason my wife seemed less amused by it, probably too high-brow for her). Had the book cost less than 1000 yen I would have picked them all up! Now if only they made an app! Check out Spoon and Tamago (link above) more info!
